What is a VersaPulse® Laser?
The VersaPulse® Laser has been a cornerstone of Kirn Plastic Surgery since Dr. Kirn first introduced it to the practice in the late 1990s. Both Tara Smith APRN and Dr. Al Bayati perform VersaPulse® treatments, and despite its long-standing presence in the field, it remains a premier tool for treating small facial vessels (such as spider veins and broken capillaries), brown spots on the face and body, and skin pigmentation issues caused by sun damage.
VersaPulse® Laser Procedure
The VersaPulse® laser is brought to our office at regular intervals, and patients are scheduled for treatment in convenient 15-minute sessions. After treatment, patients can expect some redness in the treated areas for a day or two. Brown spots typically flake off a few days after treatment, revealing a pink area underneath. Depending on the type and number of lesions, as well as the patient’s response, one or multiple treatment sessions may be necessary.

Dr. Kirn and Dr. Al Bayati are Plastic Surgeons devoted to advanced techniques in Cosmetic Surgery of the Face, Breast, and Body.
Commonly Treated Conditions:
- Spider Veins: Also known as broken capillaries or telangiectasias, these small, visible veins commonly affect the face, neck, or other body areas and are often a result of sun damage. They are most prevalent in individuals with fair complexions and typically respond well to VersaPulse® laser treatment. The nose and cheeks are the most commonly treated areas.
- Poikiloderma of Civatte: This condition, characterized by brown/red discoloration on the neck, is common and related to sun exposure. Although the name is unfamiliar to many, VersaPulse® laser provides one of the few effective treatments for this condition, typically requiring multiple sessions.
- Brown Spots and Skin Discolorations: The VersaPulse® laser can effectively treat individual brown spots as well as larger zones of discoloration. For larger areas, a technique called pigment blending is used, where the laser beam is “painted” over the affected skin to lighten the desired area.
- Collagen Remodeling: In addition to treating skin discolorations, the VersaPulse® laser is also used for a skin rejuvenation treatment called Collagen Remodeling. This treatment involves using a specific wavelength laser beam, which is “painted” over the face to stimulate the deep layers of the skin. A Zimmer chiller provides a continuous stream of super-cooled air, making this “laser facial” comfortable for patients. Collagen Remodeling is designed to improve skin tone and texture and is also beneficial for acne. Typically, a series of 3-5 treatments is recommended, each lasting around 15 minutes.
VersaPulse® laser treatments are performed in the office and usually do not require any anesthesia. A consultation is required for all patients new to the VersaPulse® laser to assess their specific needs and treatment plan. Following treatment, sun protection is essential to maintain results and protect the skin.
